Rutgers

The IDP is located on the campus of University Hospital (UH) in Newark, NJ, and provides comprehensive outpatient HIV primary health care in the service area of the city of Newark, as well as the county of Essex and surrounding counties.  First established in 1990, the IDP has been providing care to PWH for over 30 years. From the start, the care model integrated a multidisciplinary approach, integrating cervical cancer screening and colposcopy services as well as medical nutrition therapy into HIV care. Over time, the program has grown and adapted to the changing needs of PWH in Newark. Since 2005, we have established several additional core supportive services onsite—including medical case management, case management, patient navigation, viral hepatitis treatment and liver elastography, psychiatry services, and MH/SUD counseling and referrals. Since 2007, we have also served as a site for NIH-sponsored clinical trials through the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) and since 2008, for the HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN), offering enrollment in numerous clinical trials for PWH or at risk for HIV.
